Wall Systems

There are a number of wall finish options available to the Vivarium/Laboratory designer; some more conventional options with newer technology and some new product entries also with new technology.

Wall condition, anticipated end use, site problems, desired performance and budget must be considered when choosing a Wall System. Using experience and knowledge of the industry, LSP ensures all wall projects are thoroughly discussed to ensure the correct system and options are chosen. We offer high performance epoxy and urethane coatings as well as BioContainment and Clean Room options.

SeamTek™ High Performance Resin Systems for Walls

Coated Wall

Our SeamTek™ epoxy and urethane wall coating systems have the high LSP performance standard which includes chemically resistant, a smooth and durable finish with lower life cycle costs and are LEED compliant.

Epoxy coatings have been around for a long time and were initially solvent loaded materials. The increased awareness of environmental safety has forced the coatings industry to develop VOC standards, resulting in reformulation of compliant epoxy resins.

Upgrades for epoxy and urethane coatings occur with drywall or other hollow wall construction substrates as well as CMU: Durability and finish appearance are the driving forces.  LSP offers standard and upgraded high performance, high gloss, smooth resinous finishes for block wall and various types of hardboard, epoxy coatings (NR and FR), Urethane coatings (NR and FR), and troweled epoxy walls 1/8th inch thick (TQ). Details of these systems are on their respective pages.

GridLock™ Composite Wall Panel System GridLock Panel 1For reasons of shortened construction times, durability, no painting nor pin holes and reduced maintenance costs the industry has been turning to composite panels as a viable product for interior finishes in areas where sustainable finishes are critical. There are a wide range of products available in this category and they serve a wide range of design requirements.

We have developed a line of composite panel options that at first glance looks confusing but is really very simple. They are driven by end user expectations for surface finish, finish details and function. There are two surface finishes to select from. One surface, the Bio/CR line,is a special ASTM Class A smooth face with no fiberglass print through and extra gel coat for high performance. Ultra Clean, the second surface, is a standard FRP Class A rated gel coat that is smooth but fiberglass strands a visible through the surface. All faces are ASTM E 84 Class A.

They have proven to be an excellent choice for cage wash areas and any area where animal care facilities are exposed to harsh chemical disinfections.

There are two finish detail methods. The first finish is technically seamless where the panel edges are cut in a recessed ship lap pattern for joining and the resulting 3/16” wide seams or joint between the panels are sealed with a urethane sealant that is drawn flush with the surface. Once cured it presents a smooth, glossy sealed seam. The second finish, uses square edge details on the panel in which the joints a butted together. An FRP batten is then applied over the seam and sealed to the surface with a silicone adhesive.

The end result is a low maintenance, bright wall that is easy to clean and highly reflective. The system offers excellent chemical and impact resistance with a guaranteed pinhole free and moisture insensitive surface that passes the scrutiny of close inspection. It provides a durable, low maintenance wall. Most importantly, GridLock™ wall systems reduce installation time and hassles.

GridLock™ Liner Systems

In addition to the BioCR systems above we offer liner systems as an alternative to coatings over standard wall substrates. They offer the same surface characteristics as the BioCR systems and range from .115 to .090 inches thick. Mounting is direct to drywall, hardboard or masonry substrates with joints sealed by use of a batten cover. Examples are Ultra Clean I and Ultra Clean II as well as basic liner systems GridLock™ Liner NG and GridLock™ Liner PC
